More knocks for Tinubu over appointment of veteran politicians as heads of Defence Ministry

President Bola Tinubu’s appointment of former governors of Jigawa and Zamfara to head the Ministry of Defence, has infuriated many Nigerians.

The two ex governors are Abubakara Badaru (Jigawa), who is the Minister of Defence, and Bello Matawalle (Zamfara), the junior Minister of Defence. Both men have been veteran politicians with little background in security work.

FaultingTinubu’s move in a tweet on Wednesday night, Shehu Sani said the office of the Defence Minister should have been occupied by a military officer with experience and a record of accomplishments.

“In view of the security challenges faced by this country,I thought the Defence Minister should be a retired Military officer with experience and records of accomplishments. That office shouldn’t be just political, especially at this time,” he said.

Another tweep @emmaikumeh, said: “Minister of defense. Tinubu is not ready to solve our insecurity challenges.

“The Minister of police affairs is on crutches. I feel for him, but he should be resting and take good care of his health. Tinubu is not ready to solve the challenges of this country. ”

Sharing the photos of Badaru and Mattawale, @adeyanjudeji said: “These two guys as ministers of Defence is the funniest stuff I have ever seen since 1999.”

@FakhuusHashim said: “Badaru as Minister of Defence ???? I don’t want to call Tinubu’s Govt a joke since it’s writing itself.”

@MrKakaki simply tweeted: “Badaru, Mattawale, Nuhu Ribadu. Good luck to everyone.”

@Uzochi_O said: “Badaru and Mattawale as Defence Ministers? LOL What a brilliant way of rewarding failure.”
