The father of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa, known as Mohbad, Joseph Aloba, has expressed his frustrations over his strained relationship with his son’s wife, Wunmi.
Speaking during an appearance on Silverbird TV on Friday, Aloba also lamented the handling of the legal proceedings surrounding Mohbad’s tragic death.
He revealed that he has not seen Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi, nor their son, Liam, since the singer’s passing, stating that it is not his responsibility to reach out to them.
His words: “I’ve not seen Mohbad’s wife and son since his death. Even my son, Adura, none of them came to me. They know where I’m living. They are supposed to come to me. The way I’m looking at things, they are supposed to bring that child to me and say, ‘This is your grandson.’
“I demanded DNA; they are supposed to say, ‘Daddy, do it at your convenient time,’ but they have been hiding it. So, it became a public matter. Let the court have the final say concerning it. I’ll know exactly what to do from there.”
Aloba also rejected that the child shares some resemblance with Mohbad saying, “No, no, no. With what I’m seeing, he’s not. If the DNA says he is, it’s acceptable.”
Aloba further mentioned that his son, Adura, who had been living with Mohbad, has also withdrawn and has not contacted or visited him since the tragedy.
He said, “Adura is now 22 years old, but he never called me or came to my house since his brother’s death. It’s like some people are covering him. We used to be together, but something separated us after Mohbad’s death.
“Adura is supposed to fill me in on exactly what happened to his brother; they were living in the same house. He is supposed to know.”
Aloba criticized the delay in the coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s death, urging the Lagos State government to reopen it, while revealing that a private autopsy had been conducted but its results remain undisclosed pending the inquest’s resumption.
“The issue is delay, and delay results in denial. I appreciate the people working with me, but unfortunately, I’m not satisfied with the way the case is going now.
“The coroner inquest was delayed, so I want to appeal to the Lagos state government to reopen the coroner inquest. There are a lot of things we should be doing now. We have done the private autopsy, but I cannot present the result now until the coroner is opened.
“I, myself, have not witnessed the result. The order was given to us from the court, so it is not something they will present to me. They need to present it to the court, but the court was closed.
“I paid for it, but I can’t demand for the result. When I asked him, he said how is he going to present it in the court when they ask him if anybody has witnessed the result.”
