The Lagos State Police Command has taken Olamilekan Eletu, popularly known as Sam Larry, into custody as part of their ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Afrobeat singer Mohbad.
Sam Larry had reportedly fled the country following allegations of his involvement in the singer’s demise. Outraged Nigerians have consistently called for the arrest of both Sam Larry and Naira Marley, Mohbad’s former record label boss, in light of the singer’s passing. It is widely believed that the duo played significant roles in the events leading up to Mohbad’s death, as evidenced by resurfaced clips depicting the singer being subjected to intimidation by his former label boss and associates.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, announced Sam Larry’s arrest via his official X account on Thursday night. Mr. Hundeyin stated, “Balogun Olamilekan Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, is currently in our custody and is cooperating with ongoing investigations.”
Despite the proliferation of videos and other viral evidence, both Naira Marley and Sam Larry have vehemently denied any involvement in the singer’s death. Sam Larry, in his rebuttal, expressed his deep affection for the late singer, likening their bond to that of brothers.
In contrast, Naira Marley, in an interview with Reno Omokri, a former presidential aide, asserted that he had no connection to Mohbad’s passing and refuted claims that he left the country hastily after the singer’s demise. He stated that he had left the country before the tragic incident occurred and expressed his willingness to cooperate with the Nigerian Police Force, provided they could ensure his safety.
