David Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido, Falz, and Zlatan Ibile, three Nigerian musicians, joined the candlelight procession in Lagos’ Victoria Island neighbourhood in memory of the late Afrobeats musician Mohbad on Thursday.
Despite the fact there have been demonstrations in some areas of the nation, the procession on Thursday is an attempt to further demand justice for the late singer.
Around 7:18 o’clock, the procession began as hundreds of young people gathered to honour the gifted artist.
In the UK’s Peckham neighbourhood, Peckham Square hosted a related event. In videos that went viral on social media, participants could be heard singing the late rapper’s songs.
The procession occurs immediately after the rapper’s body was exhumed and an autopsy on the remains was finished by Lagos State police.
“The autopsy is complete. Awaiting outcome,” Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesman for the Lagos Police Command, wrote late on Thursday on his X account.
The Department of State Services (DSS) was requested to participate in the investigation by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who had also requested that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun conduct a thorough investigation into Mohbad’s death.
Senator Elisha Abbo visited the singer’s family in the Lekki district of Lagos State as part of the Senate’s involvement in the situation. He assured them that the government would do everything in its power to see that justice was served.
