Simon Mwadkon, the representative of Plateau North in the Nigerian Senate, has defeated former Sokoto State governor Aminu Tambuwal to become the minority leader of the Nigerian Senate.
The minority leadership of the upper legislative chamber was announced by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Tuesday.
The immediate-past governor of Sokoto and a former number four citizen Aminu Tambuwal had earlier indicated that he was interested in the position to lead the minority caucus of the senate.
His name was noticeably absent when the minority leadership’s top officials were announced, though.
According to earlier reports, Tambuwal’s ambition to lead the minority caucus was with stern resistance from members of his party that were still unhappy with him for the role he played in ensuring that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar emerged the party’s presidential candidate.
Recall that Tambuwal dropped out of the presidential primary election race of PDP, throwing his supporter behind the former Vice president. His move helped the former Vice President to secure PDP’s presidency ticket.
