Gospel singer, Mercy Chinwo, has accused her former manager, Ezekiel ThankGod, popularly known as Eezeetee, of orchestrating false news alleging that her son was fathered by fellow gospel musician Nathaniel Bassey.
Mercy, who welcomed her first child with her husband, Pastor Blessed Uzochikwa, on October 28, 2023, addressed the issue in an emotional video shared on social media on Tuesday.
Fighting back tears, she said, “One of my major crimes was when I did a song with Pastor Nathaniel Bassey. Because this man hates Pastor Nathaniel Bassey you went as far as sponsoring fake news about an innocent child, my son; and you said my son was not my son and you paid bloggers.”
The singer also accused Ezekiel of toxic behaviour during their working relationship, alleging that he harboured animosity toward other gospel figures like Pastor Jerry Eze and tried to manipulate her into sharing his grievances.
Mercy continued, “Because you hate Pastor Jerry Eze you won’t want me to go for his event. The people you fight I must fight them with you and when I ask you questions ‘Why don’t you like them?’ You will start harassing me.”
She reiterated points raised by her lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, in a public statement on January 25, clarifying that she had not initiated any legal action against Ezekiel regarding her music catalogue. Instead, she accused him of playing the “victim” while being a “bully.”
Mercy revealed that the strained relationship with Ezekiel forced her to leave Port Harcourt and relocate to Lagos, seeking a fresh start. Despite the attacks, she expressed confidence in her faith, saying, “You have bloggers, I have God.”
