Toto Wolff, the head of Mercedes Formula One, has expressed his willingness to explore the possibility of teaming up with Sir Jim Ratcliffe as an investor in Manchester United.
Jim Ratcliffe, the owner of the chemical company INEOS, is poised to acquire a 25% stake in the renowned English football club, with the deal anticipated to receive approval shortly.
Wolff, in a statement to the Press Association, commended Ratcliffe’s values and affirmed that he would certainly contemplate joining Ratcliffe’s investment group at Old Trafford. The Austrian stated, “If I felt I could contribute, then I would consider becoming part of his venture at Manchester United.”
Ratcliffe, who has long held aspirations of owning Manchester United, is taking the first step by securing a minority stake in the club, which he supported during his youth. Wolff acknowledged his strong personal connection with Ratcliffe, referring to the duo as two of the “Three Amigos,” alongside Mercedes CEO Ola Kallenius.
In a separate interview with Sky Sports, Wolff reiterated his openness to investing alongside Ratcliffe, although he acknowledged that any such collaboration is “still a long way off.” In a lighter tone, he humorously mentioned his preference for Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola over Manchester United. The finalization of Ratcliffe’s takeover is expected later this month.
