The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the Kogi State governorship election, Dino Melaye, has addressed speculations surrounding his decision not to cast a vote during the polls, asserting that it should not be attributed to his electoral defeat.
“The issue of voting or not voting has no legal status; people win elections from prison, so if we want to go into issues about this election, the processes the conclusion, instead of buying time discussing issues that has no relevance to the election, whether i voted or not is immaterial because there is no legal status for the weather you voted or not I say people who are even in prison, win elections from prison,” Melaye said.
Melaye secured a distant third position in the election, while Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious and claimed the governorship seat.
Despite claims circulating that Melaye’s choice to abstain from voting may have adversely impacted his chances in the Saturday poll, the former senator stands firm in his assertion that this factor should not be solely held responsible for his electoral setback.
