Mbappe set to join Real Madrid as free agent

Paris Saint-Germain striker, Kylian Mbappe, has reportedly agreed to join La Liga giants Real Madrid upon the expiration of his current contract this summer, according to multiple sources.

The 25-year-old French international informed PSG last week of his intention not to renew his deal, paving the way for a blockbuster free transfer to the Spanish capital.

Mbappe is expected to sign a five-year contract with Real Madrid, earning a salary of €15 million per season. His reported €150 million signing-on bonus will be paid in instalments over the duration of his Madrid deal.

Although losing their star player on a free transfer, PSG will receive around €80 million from Mbappe as compensation for allowing his contract to run down. Letting the forward leave will also save the French club €200 million in salary costs next campaign.

According to reports, PSG have already identified potential replacements for Mbappe, with Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and RB Leipzig striker, Benjamin Sesko, among their targets. Sesko could prove the most affordable option, thanks to his €50 million release clause that activates this summer.

At only 25 years of age, Mbappe is already considered one of the best players in world football. His electric pace and lethal finishing have seen him develop into a global superstar at PSG since arriving from AS Monaco in 2018. A move to 14-time UEFA Champions League winner Real Madrid represents the next chapter in the career of the World Cup winner.

Los Blancos have pursued Mbappe for several years and will finally get their man this summer. The transfer is expected to be officially announced after the season concludes next month. Mbappe’s capture is part of Real Madrid’s continuing transformation under manager Carlo Ancelotti as they aim to build a new era of success at the Bernabéu.
