Paris Saint-Germain cruised into the quarter-finals of the French Cup on Wednesday night, with a comfortable 3-1 victory over Ligue 1 rivals Brest. The win comes just a week before their crucial UEFA Champions League last-16 first leg against Real Sociedad.
Kylian Mbappe gave the reigning Ligue 1 champions the lead in the opening minutes before Danilo Pereira and January signing Goncalo Ramos added further goals to put the result beyond doubt. Brest briefly threatened a comeback when Steve Moune pulled one back, but PSG held firm even after the visitors were reduced to 10 men late on.
With their place in the last eight secured, attention now turns to their European campaign next week. Before entertaining Real Sociedad, PSG first host title challengers Lille domestically as they aim to protect their lead at the summit.
They join Lyon and Nice in Friday’s quarter-final draw for the Coupe de France after both came through their Round of 16 ties on Wednesday. Lyon edged past Lille 2-1, whilst Nice cruised past Montpellier 4-1. Fifth-division outfit St Priest gave Valenciennes a scare before eventually going down 2-1.
