A former Kaduna Senator, Shehu Sani, has revealed that the killing of peaceful protesters at the Lekki tollgate is one of the many atrocities committed by the government of Muhammadu Buhari, the immediate past president of the country.
His comment comes in the wake of reports that the Lagos state government was planning a mass burial for the remains of 103 victims of the Lekki shootings.
In a tweet on Monday, Mr. Sani also pointed out the 2015 massacre of members of an Islamic sect in Zaria as part of the many atrocities committed by the Mr Buhari-led government.
He, however, warned that the spirits of those murdered will continue to haunt the country until justice is done.
“In 2015,over a thousand members of the Islamic Movement were massacred in Zaria on the orders of the then military COAS and publicly supported by the then Governor of Kaduna State. The general public were encouraged through hateful propaganda to march and dance on the corpses of the victims and search for anything valuable in their pockets.
“The bullet riddled and charred remains of the victims including women and children were reportedly buried in mass graves in Kaduna state.Their offence was simply that they ‘blocked the road against the Army chief. The killing of the 103 EndSARS protesters in Lagos is one of the hidden atrocities of the Buhari era.The spirits of those murdered whether for ‘blocking’ the road in Zaria or ‘blocking’ the Lekki gate will continue to haunt this country and hang over its skies until justice is done,” tweet by Mr Sani read.
After a Lagos State memo was leaked on Sunday, which revealed that the state government had approved N61 million for the mass burial of 103 bodies, Nigerians took to social media to express their outrage.
This is even as the government continues to insist that no one died at the tollgate while the #EndSARS protest was underway.
