A man in a viral video who fired several shots of AK47 in the air to celebrate the reopening of Ladipo Market, is a policeman, Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin has said.

The Command gave the name of the happy-trigger policeman as Istifanus Kwanchi, and that he is already undergoing orderly room trial.

Superintendent of Police, Hundeyin, through his official X handle on Wednesday, described the actions of Kwanchi as dangerous and unprofessional.

PoliticsNow had reported that following the reopening of Ladipo Market on Monday, a man dressed in white and a jean, fired several shots in the air from an AK47 riffle in celebration, while several civilians around cheered him on.

Hundeyin said the Lagos Police Command has commenced disciplinary proceedings against Kwanchi over the unprofessional, unethical and dangerous behaviour.

The command assured the public that it would not tolerate deviant behaviour from its officers and men.

“The Lagos State Police Command has identified the person in a viral video shooting an AK-47 rifle in Ladipo Market as Inspector Istifanus Kwanchi, serving in a Lagos squadron of the Mobile Police (MOPOL).
