At least 340 husbands have reported being beaten by their wives in less than one year in Lagos, the state agency against domestic violence said in a new report.

Executive Secretary of Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, said the incidence of reporting of domestic violence from males also increased during the last year.

She said 340 men reported receiving physical abuse from their wives between September 2022 and July 2023.

She expressed worries over the trend, saying the agency “is currently handling the cases to find an amicable resolution.

As with domestic violence against women, spousal violence against men is also a crime. In most cases, it is not prosecuted unless it results in death.
