Labour Party backtracks on Obidient movement directorate in response to Obi’s objection

The Labour Party has abandoned its decision to create an Obidient Movement Directorate after Peter Obi raised an eyebrow against the decision.

The Obidient movement is the support base of Peter Obi. They propelled his candidacy in the 2023 presidential election where he ran on the platform of the Labour Party.

The party recently  decided to suck the Obidient movement into its fold by naming it Directorate of Obidient Movement. But the move was resisted by Obi on Wednesday  in a lengthy post on X.

Oni said the Obidient Movement is independent of any political party and leaderless, hence can’t be railroad into the structure of any political party.

In reaction to Obi’s comment, Labour Party has dropped the idea of creating the Directorate of Obidient Movement.

A statement signed by Obiora Ifoh, Labour Party National Publicity Secretary said the Obidient Movement has now been renamed Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration.

The statement reads: “Following the controversies arising from the creation of the Directorate of OBIDIENT Affairs in the party, the Directorate is hereby renamed the Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration.

“The inauguration will take place on Saturday June 8, 2024 at the party’s National Secretariat, Utako, Abuja by 10 am.

“Party members and the general public should take note.”
