Kumuyi’s comment that God will rebuild Nigeria through Tinubu sparks reactions

Opinions have been sharply divided after the General Overseer of the Deeper Life Church, Pastor Williams Kumuyi, said God will rebuild Nigeria through President Bola Tinubu.

Recall that during the Global Crusade of the Church, Kumuyi said God has not forsaken Nigeria and Nigerians, and that Nigerians will witness a new country through the President.

He said: “Let’s forget the past. This is a new day and I believe; we all believe that we’re going to see new things for our country through our President and through the members of the cabinet. Good things will happen.

“If you look at the new ministers one by one, you’ll see the good things they’ve done either as state governors of the past or as former ministers and I would say they have been carefully chosen. If we support and accept them and if we are not criticising their every step, we believe that God will walk through them and use them as instruments to build our nation.”

On Twitter, opinions have been sharply divided over the comment.

@InibeheEffiong said: “My current disposition towards religion is partly due to the unprincipled romance between religious leaders and politicians. The way we invoke God in Nigeria is just shameful. At the end of the day, it is not God that will build roads, hospitals and provide other basic amenities.

@DanielRegha said: “Pastor Kumuyi is supporting Tinubu, same way Mbaka endorsed Buhari by saying that he was a God-sent; Let’s not also forget when Suleman criticized youths who complained bitterly about Buhari, & how most Men of God played politics during the last elections. They’re all the same.”

@CrownprinceCom2 said: “I respected Pastor Adeboye and Pastor Kumuyi because they are Elderly people and Religious Leaders. But I disagree with their comments on Nigeria Politics most especially on Bola Tinubu.”

But @SodiqTade countered: “I don’t have any problem with Pastor Kumuyi’s statement. He is just wishing the country well, not minding the person in charge. He would have done the same for Atiku or Obi. He did the same for Buhari. He didn’t campaign for any politician during the campaign, even when some Pastors asked the youth to waste their votes on Peter Obi. It is hilarious to see those who praised the Pastors that asked the youth to waste their votes on a failed project now dragging Pastor Kumuyi for wishing the country well after seeing the result of the wasted votes. Tinubu is here because your pastors asked Nigerians to waste their votes. You can’t have your cake and eat it.”
