In a collective announcement released on Saturday, both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP) have declared their endorsement of Dino Melaye in the forthcoming Kogi state governorship election scheduled for November 11.
PoliticsNow reports that the development comes a week ahead of the state’s gubernatorial election.
The parties disclosed that their decision to back Senator Dino Melaye, who is the PDP’s gubernatorial candidate, was the result of extensive consultations with key stakeholders in the state.
The joint statement issued by the parties reads: “We are delighted to inform you that a historic decision has been made on the 4th of November, 2023. This marks a historic moment aimed at rescuing our beloved Kogi state from the darkness that has overshadowed it during the seven-year reign of the APC, led by Alhaji Yahaya Bello.”
“After thorough consultations and with the best interests of our beloved state in mind, the Labour Party has officially chosen to endorse Senator Dino Melaye, the PDP Gubernatorial Candidate, as its own candidate for the Kogi State Governorship Election on November 11th. This alliance is in the best interest of all Kogites and supporters of the Labour Party. We urge our supporters in Kogi State to mobilize and cast their votes overwhelmingly for the PDP Gubernatorial Candidate, Senator Dino Melaye, in the upcoming election on November 11, 2023.”
Senator Melaye has also confirmed this development, sharing the joint statement across his official social media platforms.
