Klopp’s prolific Liverpool attack draws blanks against Man Utd

Jurgen Klopp was left disappointed as Liverpool failed to score at Anfield for the first time since April 2022, as they were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Manchester United. Playing in front of a 50-year record crowd of 57,000 fans, Klopp’s usually prolific side peppered the opposition goal with 34 shots, but found no way past an inspired Manchester United defence.

Darwin Nunez extended his goalless run to seven matches, while even Mohamed Salah’s mercurial skills could not create clear openings. The visitors almost snatched a smash-and-grab winner when substitute Anthony Martial went one-on-one with Alisson Becker in the 67th minute, but the Brazilian saved to keep Liverpool’s unbeaten home record intact.

For Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, keeping Klopp’s free-flowing Liverpool attack scoreless brought some relief after conceding 21 times in the last five meetings between the arch-rivals. However, with United now on a five-match run with just one victory, questions remain over their ability to break into the top four this season.

The stalemate ended dramatically when Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot earned back-to-back yellow cards in injury time to see red, summing up the frustration for both sides. After recent narrow wins, Klopp’s attack fizzled when he needed it most to reclaim top spot in the English Premier League table.
