Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp etched his name into the history books on Wednesday night, securing his 200th English Premier League victory with an emphatic 4-1 dismantling of Chelsea at Anfield. Klopp became only the seventh boss to reach the double-century milestone.
Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz caused all sorts of problems for the visiting defence early on, but Chelsea keeper Dorde Petrovic thwarted them. Persistence paid off for the imperious Reds in the 23rd minute, however, as Diogo Jota bundled his way through to break the deadlock.
Liverpool have only dropped points twice at Anfield after scoring first in their previous 86 league games, leaving Chelsea facing an uphill battle. Soon after, Conor Bradley doubled the advantage with his maiden senior goal for the club following sublime link-up play with Diaz.
Despite spurning a chance to extend the lead when Nunez hit the post from the spot, Liverpool remained in complete control. New signings Malo Gusto and Mykhailo Mudryk were introduced to inject life into a blunt Chelsea attack after the interval.
The visitors showed some signs of stirring, but Dominik Szoboszlai swiftly netted a third for Liverpool with an expert header. Christopher Nkunku pulled one back for the Londoners, before Diaz dashed hopes of a comeback, sliding home Nunez’s assist to cap a resounding win.
