The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu I, has berated ex- President Olusegun Obasanjo for ordering a dozen of Ibadan Monarchs to rise on their feet and greet him.
Obasanjo, yesterday broke age-long protocol in Yoruba land by ordering monarchs at an event he was attending in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, to rise up and greet him. His reason was that at any event Governors and Presidents are attending, traditional rulers defer to them.
But Oluwo, in a statement by his media aide, Alli Ibraheem, said he would have rebuffed Obasanjo if he were at the event.
The Oluwo described former President Obasanjo’s action against the monarchs in Oyo as a desecration of Yoruba traditional institutions.
He said Obasanjo could not have done the same to Emirs.
The monarch said Obasanjo ought to have shown some respect in dealing with traditional rulers, saying monarchs were God’s representative on earth and that such a thing would not happen if he were around.
