Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania secure joint hosting rights for AFCON 2027, Nigeria loses out  

 

Nigeria’s hope of hosting the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 2027 has been dashed with the rights now going to  Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The three east African countries beat Nigeria in the bid.

 

Nigeria had sought to co-host the tournament with Benin Republic. 

 

Nigeria’s Sports Minister, John Owan Enoh, had earlier visited Egypt, alongside representatives from the Nigeria Football Federation, where they presented Nigeria’s  bid to host AFCON in 2027. 

Nigeria first hosted AFCON in 1980 and won the championship. 

The last time Nigeria hosted the AFCON was jointly with Ghana.

 

Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions clinched the trophy against Nigeria at the National Stadium in Lagos.
