Kano Tribunal Judges describe Kwankwaso’s supporters as gang of red cap wearers, political bandits

“I use this opportunity to condemn the gang of Red Cap wearers who, like a violent and terrorist cult, chased us out of Kano and put us in fear of our lives.”

The September 20 judgement of the Election Petition Tribunal that sacked Abba Kabir Yusuf as Governor of Kano State also came with some harsh comments against his supporters.

The three-man panel, led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan-Osadebay, after sacking Yusuf and declared Nasiru Gawuna as winner of the March 18 governorship election, called supporters of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) who are known with their signature red caps as bandits masquerading as politicians.

The judges said: “I use this opportunity to condemn the gang of Red Cap wearers who, like a violent and terrorist cult, chased us out of Kano and put us in fear of our lives. We believe that only Allah is the giver of power. Those who believe in Allah must bow to his will and submit to the authority of Governmental power.

“Resort to anarchy, violence and killing can never be a source of lawful power. Threatening to put Honourable Judges in the danger of their life as done in Kano by some disgruntled bandits parading as politicians is hereby condemned.”

The harsh comments may not be unconnected to threats by two officials of the Kano State government against the judges.
