A man in Laraba Abasawa in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State has set a mosque on fire.
The incident which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, while worshipers were observing the ‘Subh’ prayer, left many injured.
According to Daily Trust, a member of the community who asked not to be named said the arsonist whose identity is not yet known used petrol to set the mosque on fire.
He went on to confirm that the worshipers who were about 40 in number were locked in by the man after setting the place of worship ablaze.
Describing what transpired, he narrated that “the man used petrol and lit fire while the people, about 40 of them, were praying. He locked the mosque after the fire.
“It took time for people outside to get aware of the incident and rescue the victims who were struggling to break out.”
He further added that at least 20 worshippers who sustained serious injuries during the incident have been rushed to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano.
