An activist, Aisha Yesufu, has accused the judiciary of working to destroy Nigeria’s judiciary.
Yesufu, who supported Labour Party presidential candidate in the February 25 presidential election, alleged in a post on X, that despite the All Progressives Congress (APC) losing two consecutive governorship elections in Kano, they have continually used illegitimate means to remain in power.
Recall that the Court of Appeal sitting in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Friday, sacked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State by upholding the decision of tribunal led by Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadebay which deducted over 165,000 votes from Yusuf to invalidate his election.
In the 2019 governorship election in Kano, Yusuf, who as then candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), won the election which the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) later declared as inconclusive. In the second round of the poll, INEC declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Abdullahi Ganduje as winner of the election with a vote margin of less than 350 votes.
Aisha Yesufu said in her post: “The judiciary is really on the path to destroy democracy completely in Nigeria.b 2019 Kano people rejected APC yet rigged magic was done and now this again. When you take away the legitimate will of the people you open room for the illegitimate will to be exercised.”
