England captain Harry Kane made Bundesliga history, clinching the title of the highest-scoring Englishman in a single season. Kane’s 18th league goal secured a 1-0 victory for Bayern Munich against struggling Cologne, propelling the Bavarian giants to the top of the table over Bayer Leverkusen.
Since his summer transfer from Tottenham Hotspur, the 30-year-old striker has displayed exceptional form, tallying 22 goals in 17 matches across all competitions. Kane’s Bundesliga goal tally surpasses the previous English record of 17, set by Kevin Keegan in 1978/1979 with Hamburg, and equaled by Jadon Sancho in 2019/2020 for Borussia Dortmund.
Despite Bayern’s dominance in the match, a combination of wayward finishing and outstanding goalkeeping limited the score. Cologne’s Timo Hubers almost gifted an early opener to Thomas Tuchel’s men, but on the 20th minute, Kane capitalized on a rebound from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s blocked shot to secure the decisive goal.
Although second-bottom Cologne posed little threat going forward, with Manuel Neuer making only one meaningful save, Bayern missed opportunities to widen the lead in the second half. Leroy Sane’s late attempt was denied by the woodwork, but Bayern maintained professionalism to secure the victory.
This result, fueled by another goal from Kane, catapults Bayern to the top of the table for the first time this season. Kane’s record-breaking Bundesliga debut season looks set to continue with two-thirds of the campaign still ahead.
