Judge who ordered CBN not to release Rivers allocation deserves to be barred permanently from practicing law, says Joe Abah

An expert in governance reforms, Dr Joe Abah, has knocked the judge who ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to withhold the financial allocation of Rivers State.

On Wednesday, a Federal High Court in Abuja barred the CBN from disbursing further monthly allocations to the Rivers State Government, citing alleged constitutional violations by Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

In her ruling on Wednesday, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik found that Governor Fubara’s presentation of the 2024 budget to a four-member House of Assembly breached constitutional protocol.

The judge ruled that since January, Rivers State has received and spent allocations based on an “illegitimate” budget, describing this as a “constitutional aberration.”

The court then ordered further restriction of funds to Rivers State.

But in a post on his X handle, Dr Abah said if the report turns out to be true that a judge ordered the CBN from releasing funds belonging to Rivers State, such a judge deserves to be flogged publicly before being debarred from practicing law.

His post reads, “Totally illegal, if true. Any judge that does this should be flogged in public and debarred permanently from practicing law in any shape or form.”
