Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, has condemned Lloyd Ekweremadu, son of former deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, for hosting an extravagant wedding despite his parents’ incarceration in the United Kingdom.
Lloyd married Tiffany Adaobi Obinna-Uzor at the Basilica of Grace, Anglican Communion, Gudu District, Abuja, on Saturday, August 19.
Top politicians, including three former Senate Presidents – Anyim Pius Anyim, David Mark, and Bukola Saraki and PDP governorship candidate in Kogi State, Senator Dino Melaye, attended the event.
Ekweremadu and his wife were found guilty of organ trafficking and sentenced to various terms of imprisonment.
While Ekweremadu was sentenced to nine years and eight months imprisonment, Beatrice received a prison term of four years and six months.
Obinna Obeta, a doctor who was accused of conspiring with them, was sentenced to ten years in prison.
Igbokwe, while reacting to the wedding of the young Ekweremadu, said he should have opted for a more private wedding ceremony.
He said: “If I were to be Ekweremmadu’s son I would not have staged this elaborate wedding ceremony with my father and mother in prison. I would have done a low-key marriage ceremony and wait till my parents are free. This generation scares me stiff.”
