The Joint Action Front (JAF) and the Coalition for Revolution (CORE) have fixed Monday, February 26, 2024, for nationwide protest rallies against the rising cost of living.
The groups, in a statement, said the rallies are a prelude to and support for a similar two-day nationwide protest by the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) scheduled for February 27, and 28, 2024.
Joint Action Front (JAF) is the coalition of Nigerian pro-labour civil society organizations (CSOs) while CORE is a coalition of revolutionary socialist, pan-Africanist and radical democratic organisations and political parties in Nigeria.
Nigeria is suffering an economic crisis with soaring inflation, leaving many people struggling to afford food. While the cost-of-living crisis persists, Nigerians also grapple with a worsening security situation in the country.
The CSOs described the event as “protest rallies against the Tinubu government’s policies of hardship and hunger!” adding that “Freedom only cometh by struggle!”
The take-off venue of the rally, according to the statement, is the NLC Lagos sub-headquarters office in Yaba, Lagos, while the kick-off time is 8:30 am.
“This is not a one-time action but a build-up towards NLC’s February 27 & 28 protests and other subsequent mass actions!” the statement added.
