Former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Kingsley Moghalu, has urged all persons of conscience to condemn Saturday’s unprovoked attack on Israel by the Hamas sect.
Making this call in a tweet via his official X handle, Mr Moghalu who lent his voice to the recent dispute between Hamas sect and Israeli forces, suggested that Israel has every right to defend itself.
Mr Moghalu argued that the attack on Israeli citizens by Hamas sect was wrong, and stands condemnable.
“The Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel this morning are wrong. They should be condemned by all persons of conscience. Israel has every right to, and will defend itself with the necessary level of force. While we recognize the hopelessness Palestinians feel about the prospects for a larger and equitable peace with Israel, and Israel should prioritize this to promote security and stability in its region, today’s attacks nevertheless stand condemned and condemnable,” Moghalu wrote.
PoliticsNow recalls that In an extraordinary surprise attack on a major Jewish holiday on Saturday, Hamas militants poured into surrounding Israeli communities from the blockaded Gaza Strip, killing scores and kidnapping others. Israel’s prime minister said that the nation is now at war with Hamas and vowed to exact an “unprecedented price” as it launched airstrikes in Gaza.
Gunmen from Hamas invaded up to 22 areas outside of the Gaza Strip in a startlingly broad assault, encompassing towns and other settlements up to 15 miles (24 km) from the Gaza border. As Israel’s military struggled to mobilise a response, they shot and killed civilians and troops in several locations.
