Israel-Hamas War: Sharia Council asks Tinubu to cut ties with Israel
The Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria (SCSN) has called on President Bola Tinubu to reconsider the country’s relations with Israel until Israel demonstrates adherence to international law and respects the rights of Palestinians. Additionally, the council emphasized the importance of Nigeria providing aid to support the people of Palestine.
During a press conference held in Abuja on Thursday, Sheikh AbdurRasheed Hadiyyatullah, President of SCSN, characterized the ongoing crisis in Palestine as a genocide. He expressed that aside from the evident criminality and lack of humanity, the situation highlights the failure of global institutions established after the Second World War to safeguard individuals against tyranny.
Hadiyyatullah criticized the United States for vetoing a United Nations Resolution that aimed to create humanitarian pauses in the conflict to allow for the delivery of aid to Gaza. He contended that the international community has failed to address the root causes of the conflict, largely due to what he described as unwavering support from the United States for the Zionist occupiers of Palestine.
Hadiyyatullah urged the Federal Government to promptly provide relief materials to the besieged Palestinians who are in urgent need of food, clothing, medicine, and other essential supplies. This action, he argued, should be taken on behalf of the numerous Muslims, Christians, and individuals of conscience in Nigeria.
