Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, and others including the country’s foreign minister, have been found dead at the site of a helicopter crash on Monday, State media reported.
Apart from 63-year-old Raisi, other dead victims of the crash include Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, 60.
The state-run IRNA news agency reported that the helicopter also carried the governor of Iran’s East Azerbaijan province and other officials and bodyguards.
“President Raisi, the foreign minister and all the passengers in the helicopter were killed in the crash”, a senior Iranian official also told Reuters.
There is no immediate cause for the crash in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province. State TV reported that images from the site showed the aircraft slammed into a mountain peak.
Raisi had visited Azerbaijan early on Sunday, to inaugurate a dam with Azerbaijan’s President, Ilham Aliyev.
