Intriguing Europa League knockout play-off draw sets up key clashes

The 2023/2024 UEFA Europa League knockout round play-offs draw has unveiled captivating matchups, intensifying the competition as teams vie for advancement to the last 16.

Several teams, having transitioned from the UEFA Champions League group stage, are redirecting their focus towards clinching European glory in the Europa League. AC Milan, the Italian football powerhouse, is among the clubs dropping down after finishing third in their group, trailing Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.

A noteworthy fixture in the draw features AS Roma, led by Jose Mourinho, squaring off against Dutch side Feyenoord. This marks the third consecutive season these teams will meet in European competitions. Mourinho, with a successful track record in the Europa League, notably securing the title with Manchester United in the 2016/2017 season.

The initial legs of these encounters are scheduled for February 15 next year, with the return fixtures set seven days later on February 22. Victorious teams will advance to the last 16 draw on February 23, joining the eight Europa League group winners.

Among the group winners are English Premier League representatives West Ham, Brighton, and Liverpool, along with the Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen, who have emerged as strong contenders following their impressive start to the second-tier European competition this season.
