Inter Milan clinched a pivotal 2-1 away triumph against Atalanta on Saturday, even as the home side staged a late comeback. The contest at Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo witnessed a 40th-minute opener from Inter, converted by Hakan Calhanoglu from the penalty spot, followed by a remarkable second goal by Lautaro Martinez.
In the closing stages, Atalanta mounted a spirited response, narrowing the deficit with a Gianluca Scamacca tap-in. However, the 10-man Atalanta squad couldn’t find the equalizer, enabling Inter to secure three invaluable points.
The first half unfolded cautiously, with both teams creating opportunities before Inter was awarded a penalty just before the halftime interval. Calhanoglu expertly slotted the ball home from the spot, providing Inter with the lead. After the break, the Nerazzurri assumed control, with Martinez doubling their advantage via a curling shot into the top corner, facilitated by an assist from Ademola Lookman.
Scamacca’s goal set the stage for a tense finish, but Atalanta’s hopes dimmed as Rafael Toloi was shown a red card for a second yellow. Despite late pressure from the home side, Inter held firm to secure the victory.
This triumph propels Inter Milan to a stronger position at the summit of Serie A as they continue their pursuit of the league title this season. Despite the loss on their home turf, Atalanta remains in fifth place.
