Commercial motorcyclists popularly known as “okada riders ” are no longer allowed to wear hoods or face masks in Osun State, according to the state police command.
This was revealed in a statement made on Monday to journalists in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, by the command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola.
Explaining the reason for the decision, Ms Opalola said the decision was taken to curb the activities of those using motorcycles to perpetrate crime in the state.
“The decision was taken by the command to curb the criminal activities involving the use of motorcycles in the state,” Opalola said.
Additionally, she requested that the state’s okada riders’ Association leadership issue a warning to its members not to wear any kind of face or head covering while operating a motorbike.
Opalola urged people not to ride on motorcycles or use the services of any commercial motorcyclist wearing a hood or facemask.
“The command has plans and strategies on how to arrest and prosecute anyone that acts against the rules,” the police spokesperson said.
