INEC says it has no preferred candidate in Imo gov. poll, netizens overwhelmingly disagree
Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmoud says the election body has no candidate in the Imo governorship poll.
Yakubu was reacting to insinuations that INEC was working for the reelection of Governor Hope Uzodimma in the November 11 governorship election.
The major candidates in the election are; Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Athan Achonu of the Labour Party (LP).
INEC chairman, in a comment which was shared on the commission’s X handle, read: “Let me repeat myself, INEC is not a Political Party. We do not have a candidate in the November 11 #ImoDecides2023 election. The responsibility of who becomes the next Governor of Imo State is entirely in the hands of the Voters in Imo State. Our commitment is to protect the integrity of the process so that whoever the people of Imo State vote for becomes their Governor.”
Under the comment of Yakubu’s post, more than a thousand reactions by netizens were overwhelmingly negative.
