The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has firmly refuted claims suggesting the withdrawal of IReV passwords from its Local Government officials ahead of the ongoing polls. Addressing the allegations through an official statement on its X account in the early hours of Saturday, the Commission clarified key points to dispel misinformation surrounding the electoral process.
Contrary to the assertions made by unidentified “concerned workers” in a story, INEC categorically stated that it did not withdraw passwords for result upload from Local Government Supervisors for use by Assistant Presiding Officer 1s (APO1s) in Imo State. The Commission emphasized that Presiding Officers (POs), not APO1s, bear the responsibility for uploading results onto the IReV platform.
In reaffirming its commitment to transparency and procedural adherence, INEC assured the public that all passwords required for the result upload had been securely released to the designated officials. The statement aimed to quash any doubts about the integrity of the electoral process, emphasizing the Commission’s dedication to conducting free and fair elections.
The Commission also acknowledged the likelihood of more such insinuations surfacing before, during, and after the elections, urging Nigerians to remain vigilant and discerning in the face of potential misinformation. The statement concluded with a reminder to disregard unfounded claims and fake news circulating during the electoral period.
PoliticsNow reeports that this clarification comes amid allegations made against the election umpire on the eve of the off-cycle governorship election.
