Imo Election: Achonu vows not to congratulate Uzodimma insists he won the election

Achonu, Labour Party’s candidate at the last Saturday off-cycle governorship election held in Imo, Athan Achonu, has vowed not to congratulate the state governor and winner of the governorship poll, Hope Uzodimma.

Making this vow in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Chibuikem Diala, the LP candidate discarded rumours suggesting that he made a congratulatory visit to the state governor, indicating that he had conceded defeat.

Clearing that such a visit never happened, Achonu insisted that he was the winner of the last weekend’s election despite INEC’s decision to return the state governor Uzodimma as the governor-elect of the state.

The statement said that reports suggesting that Achonu had congratulated Uzodimma was a script from the pit of hell.

“After foisting the worst electoral heist on Imo State, the governor and his bootlickers are spreading fake news purporting that his opponents in last Saturday’s election had paid him a congratulatory visit,” Diala in the statement said.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Achonu had since categorically rejected the result declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and called for its review and cancellation. He had also held a joint press briefing with Samuel Anyanwu (SamDaddy), the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, and insisted that the result of the governorship election must be reviewed or cancelled, warning that unless the INEC did so, the people might revolt,” he added.

Naija News recalls that Uzodimma who contested the governorship poll on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) polled over 500,000 votes to defeat Achonu and the Peoples Democratic Party at governorship election.

However, both LP and PDP had faulted the poll alleging that elections did not hold in several parts of the state.
