IGP condemns Benue robbery, says effort ongoing to unravel identity of perpetrators
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun has vehemently denounced the recent brutal bank robbery that unfolded in Otukpo, Benue State, resulting in the tragic loss of both police officers and innocent civilians.
In a statement released on Saturday and personally signed by Egbetokun, he decried the act of violence as a direct assault on the fundamental principles of peace, security, and justice that the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies diligently strive to uphold.
Furthermore, he has issued an immediate directive for the deployment of supplementary operational and investigative resources to Otukpo, the Benue State Police Command, and neighboring states to aid in the expeditious capture of those responsible for this heinous act.
Highlighting that security operatives successfully neutralized two suspects in the process of their escape, the IGP emphasized that the Nigeria Police Force has initiated a comprehensive and coordinated endeavor to ensure that the culprits behind this grave crime are brought to justice.
Egbetokun expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved families of the victims who suffered due to the violence. He also urged the public to remain composed and to cooperate fully with the authorities by providing any information that might facilitate the ongoing investigation and lead to the apprehension of the suspects.
