Labour Party (LP) Dismisses False Reports, Affirms Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata’s Candidacy for Edo 2024 Governorship Election
The Labour Party (LP) has called on the public to disregard online reports claiming that it warned Barr. Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata, a former chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and a prominent aspirant for the 2024 Governorship Election in Edo State, to abstain from the race.
In a statement signed by Comr. Sam Uroupa, the Publicity Secretary and Image maker of the Labour Party in Edo State, the party clarified that the alleged directive to Akpata originated from a “low mind, meddlesome interloper” and expelled member, Abayomi Arabambi.
The statement outlined the following key points:
- Abayomi Arabambi is not a current member of the Labour Party, having been expelled long ago.
- Arabambi is not a native of Edo State and is not a registered voter in the state, therefore lacking the authority to dictate who should or should not aspire for the Governorship of Edo State in 2024.
- The accusation against Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata of being a political operative for Governor Obaseki within the party is false and unfounded.
- The Labour Party, under the leadership of Comr. Kelly Ogbaloi, did not issue any warning to Barr. Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata or any other aspirant to withdraw from the Edo Governorship Race, as claimed by Abayomi Arabambi.
The Labour Party strongly urged the public to ignore the statements coming from Abayomi Arabambi and affirmed that Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata is a leading aspirant for the Edo Governorship Race without any hindrances.
The party advised Akpata, his supporters, and the general public to disregard news publications from Abayomi Arabambi and his associates.
