Igboho asks security agencies to fish out herders who recently attacked Oyo communities

Yoruba nation advocate agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, known as Sunday Igboho, asked security agencies to identify and prosecute herders responsible for recent attacks on farmers in Iwere-Ile, Oyo State, and certain communities in Ogun State.

Making this call in a statement released on Sunday, Igboho emphasized the need to ensure the safety of Yoruba farmers and farmers across Nigeria, who are being plagued by criminal herders hindering their peaceful agricultural activities.

In the statement, he stated: “We are urging the Police, the Department of State Security (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigerian Army to promptly address the security breaches before the situation escalates further.

“We are deeply concerned about the resurgence of attacks on our farmers who are innocently striving to make a living. This troubling development demands serious reflection, especially considering the ongoing challenges facing the country.

“The recent attack and killing of Amotekun Security Corps personnel, as well as other security agents trying to restore peace in the Iwere-Ile community following the suspected actions of Fulani herdsmen who had already killed our people in Iwere-Ile, must be thoroughly investigated, and the perpetrators brought to justice.

“While we appreciate the efforts of Oyo State Governor, Engineer ‘Seyi Makinde, and his Ogun State counterpart, Prince Dapo Abiodun, in their commitment to maintaining peace and development in their respective states, we call upon the heads of security agencies to take decisive action before the situation deteriorates further.

“However, we believe in peaceful coexistence in Nigeria, irrespective of tribe, religion, or political affiliations. We are issuing a seven-day ultimatum to Fulani herdsmen involved in the killing of our people in any part of the Southwest to vacate our communities. This warning is crucial, and we have no intention of taking the law into our hands, but they must leave.

“At present, we have faith in the Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, to ensure the safety of lives and property, particularly for farmers in Nigeria. We cannot tolerate any actions that could further escalate food prices and the cost of essential commodities.

“We also appeal to the governors of Oyo and Ogun States to promptly deploy additional security personnel and strategies to address the escalating Fulani herdsmen-farmer conflicts and ensure peace.

“Nigerians and farmers residing in agricultural areas require immediate security presence, allowing them to engage in small and large-scale farming activities for food production. These killings must come to an end for the benefit of all.”
