How I overcame drug trafficking allegations – Sola Sobowale

Veteran actress Sola Sobowale has candidly revealed the harrowing experience of facing unfounded drug peddling allegations, which almost tarnished her illustrious career.

The acclaimed actress disclosed that rumors of her involvement in drug trafficking emerged after she relocated to the United Kingdom. Sobowale, now 60 years old, made the move to support her children, undertaking menial jobs to sustain her family.

Upon her return to Nigeria in 2016, she broke a 15-year hiatus from acting and secured a pivotal role in the groundbreaking film ‘The Wedding Party.’

“People were astonished to see me return to Nigeria,” Sobowale added, highlighting the absurdity of the rumors that circulated in her absence.

The actress further recalled the baseless speculations surrounding her life in the UK, including false reports of her working as a cleaner and assisting at a restaurant owned by her sister. These rumors, she lamented, painted a misleading narrative of her life overseas.

Before her departure to the UK, Sobowale owned a restaurant named ‘Sola’s Kitchen’ in Nigeria. Despite the unfounded allegations, she maintained a resilient spirit, affirming her willingness to undertake any job to support herself and her family.

Sobowale’s journey in the entertainment industry spans over four decades, marked by remarkable performances and enduring dedication. Initially drawn to the vibrant theatre scene in Ibadan, Nigeria, she pursued her passion for acting, overcoming challenges and misconceptions along
