Crystal Palace are preparing to part ways with manager Roy Hodgson after a dismal run of results has seen them fall to just above the English Premier League relegation zone. The 76-year-old is set to leave the Eagles in 15th place in the table, having taken just three wins from their last 19 matches.
Former Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner has emerged as the frontrunner to take over at Selhurst Park. The 49-year-old has been out of work since leaving the Bundesliga side at the end of last season. During his two years with Die Adler, Glasner guided them to Europa League glory with a penalty shootout triumph over Rangers in the 2022 final.
Palace made a bright start to the current campaign, accumulating seven points from their opening four fixtures. However, they have struggled for form since September, recording only three more league victories. They were also knocked out of the FA Cup in the Third Round by rivals Everton.
Recent heavy defeats to Brighton and Hove Albion and Arsenal have increased the pressure on Hodgson and chairman Steve Parish. A humiliating 4-1 loss away to the Seagulls was followed by banners from travelling supporters calling for the pair’s departure. Monday evening’s 3-1 home reverse against Chelsea made it four losses in five matches.
This is Hodgson’s second stint in the Palace dugout, having returned on an initial short-term deal last March after the sacking of Patrick Vieira. Five wins and three draws from his first ten games secured EPL safety before he signed a one-year extension in the summer.
