Hilda Baci loses longest cooking marathon crown to Irish chef, Alan Fisher

Barely five months after Guinness World Records (GWR) confirmed Nigeria’s Hilda Baci as the record holder for the longest cooking by an individual, an Irish chef, Alan Fisher, has dethroned her.

GWR, in a post on Tuesday via its X handle, said: “Nigerian cooking queen Hilda Baci has been dethroned. Alan Fisher from Ireland cooked for an incredible 119 hours and 57 minutes at his restaurant in Japan.”

An X user queried why GWR didn’t keep to an alleged rule that embargoed breaking a new rule until after a year.

But GWR responded to the user saying there was no such rule. “That was just a rumour, records can be broken anytime!” GWR said.

Recall that on June 13, GWR confirmed Hilda Baci as record holder for the longest cooking by an individual.

Announcing the feat via its website, the GWR said, “Following a thorough review of all the evidence, Guinness World Records can now confirm that Hilda Effiong Bassey, better known as Hilda Baci, has officially broken the record for the longest cooking marathon (individual), with a time of 93 hours 11 minutes.”

The 26-year-old chef began on Thursday 11 May and ended on Monday 15 May, cooking over 100 pots of food during her four-day kitchen stint.

Hilda attempted to set a record of 100 hours, however, almost seven hours were deducted from her final total because she mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks early on in the attempt.
