Former chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Professor Chidi Odinkalu has described the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as being someone who is perpetually high on alcohol.
Odinkalu made the comment in reaction to a mocking comment made by Wike against his professorship title.
Wike had said: “Somebody came to show me one write up where they said it was one Professor that wrote. I asked him, professor of which university? Nobody knows.”
Odinkalu, who was appointed a Professor of Practice in 2021 at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of Tufts University, in Medford, Massachusetts, dismissed Wike’s remark, describing them as a remark of someone who was drunk most of the time.
He said: “I don’t expect @GovWike to know where or what I teach: 1. He’s drunk most of the time. 2. The uni isn’t in Abuja, so he can’t revoke its C of O. 3. The uni isn’t in Rivers State, so he can’t buy a judge to give injunction against it. 4. He can’t buy us all.”
The war of words between Wike and Odinkalu escalated when the Professor described Wike as “A greedy glutton has no business giving lectures on the virtues of being teetotal. hashtag#NyesomWike became a member of the Nigerian Bar Association HQ in 1991 & promptly mistook hashtag#TheBar for an invitation to get hopelessly drunk… He has emerged as the hashtag#GreedyGlutton of the Nigerian political space, bingeing on every beverage the country can offer: power, public money, the judiciary, treachery, violence, vintage alcohol & lots more.”
