Harry Kane made a spectacular debut in Der Klassiker, scoring a hat-trick that elevated his Bundesliga goal tally to 15 in just 10 games for Bayern Munich as they convincingly defeated Borussia Dortmund 4-0 on the road this Saturday.
Bayern got off to a quick start as Dayot Upamecano headed them into the lead after just four minutes. Shortly thereafter, the English striker showcased his prowess, slotting in from close range, and both goals were masterfully set up by Leroy Sané.
Although a stunned Dortmund side improved their performance after the break, Kane, Bayern’s record signing, secured his second goal in the 72nd minute, once again from close range, effectively sealing the match. Kane then added a brilliant finishing touch by completing his third hat-trick of the season in stoppage time after racing clear and calmly finding the back of the net.
Harry Kane’s exceptional performance made history as he became the first player to score 15 goals in his first 10 Bundesliga appearances. He now leads the season’s scoring charts, surpassing Serhou Guirassy of Stuttgart by one goal. Manuel Neuer, Bayern’s captain and goalkeeper, expressed his delight, stating, “We are so happy that we have him in the team.”
Fellow attacker Thomas Müller playfully voiced his concern, jesting that Kane might soon require another hotel room to accommodate all the match balls from his third Bayern treble. Müller’s quip reflected the astonishing success of the England captain.
The victory propelled Bayern to 26 points, just two points behind the league leaders, Bayer Leverkusen, who secured a 3-2 win over Hoffenheim earlier, thanks to a brace from Alex Grimaldo. Meanwhile, Dortmund’s first league defeat of the season ended their 25-match unbeaten streak at home, positioning them fourth with 21 points.
After a heartbreaking loss on the final day of the previous season, which secured Bayern an 11th consecutive title, Dortmund was eager to make a statement against their archrivals. The fervent Yellow Wall was in full voice before kick-off. Despite a recent setback in the German Cup against third-tier club Saarbrücken and not firing on all cylinders, Bayern displayed their best performance of the season to outclass Dortmund, seizing control from the opening whistle.
Dayot Upamecano broke free from his marker to powerfully head in a close-range delivery from Sané. The former Manchester City player was unstoppable, particularly in the early stages, and orchestrated a sublime combination down the left before delivering a low cross that Kane effortlessly tapped into the net.
Kane also struck the post as Bayern dominated the first half, while Donyell Malen missed a golden opportunity to reduce the deficit just before halftime, curling his shot over the crossbar.
Dortmund exhibited improvement in the second half but posed little threat. Kane netted his second goal with a precision pass from Kingsley Coman, and when Aleksandar Pavlovic supplied him in added time, it was only a matter of time before he secured his third goal.
Dortmund is set to face Newcastle in the Champions League on Tuesday, while Bayern will host Galatasaray a day later.
