Amnesty International, a global human rights organization, has urged Nigerian authorities to immediately halt any plans for a covert mass grave for #EndSARS victims.
Amnesty International issued this warning in a tweet on Monday, urging the nation’s authorities to conduct a thorough and independent investigation into the killings and make sure that those suspected of being responsible are held accountable.
“The Nigerian authorities must urgently halt their plans to carry out a secret mass burial of #EndSARS victims and instead carry out a thorough and independent investigation into the killings and ensure that those suspected to be responsible are brought to justice in fair trial,” tweet by the rights organisation read.
The request follows the leak of Lagos State Government’s plans for a mass burial for 103 #EndSARS protesters. The sum of N6.1 million had been authorised by the Lagos state government in a leaked memo for the mass burial of 103 #EndSARS protest victims.
However, after a social media uproar, the Lagos state government declared that 103 victims were not killed at the Lekki tollgate.
