Erling Haaland has alleviated concerns about his fitness by participating in training before Manchester City’s UEFA Champions League clash with BSC Young Boys on Tuesday.
The prolific Norwegian striker, who has scored 13 goals this season, had been a doubt for the Group G match at the Etihad Stadium after twisting his ankle during City’s dominant English Premier League victory over Bournemouth.
However, during a media-accessible training session on Monday afternoon, Haaland did not exhibit any noticeable signs of discomfort.
Earlier in the day, manager Pep Guardiola had stated that the 23-year-old would be given every opportunity to demonstrate his fitness, emphasizing that Sunday’s league match against Chelsea would not influence his decision. Guardiola added, “If he confirms he is ready and free from pain, I will consider his participation since there are ample days for recovery between now and Sunday.”
As the reigning UCL champions, City can secure their place in the knockout stages with a second victory over the Swiss team, following their 3-1 triumph away in Bern last month. Guardiola mentioned that achieving advancement at the earliest opportunity would enable him to rotate his squad and prioritize forthcoming EPL fixtures.
