Haaland returns from injury to lead Manchester City past Everton

Manchester City picked up a 2-0 victory over Everton on Saturday, with Erling Haaland scoring his first goals since November on his return from a foot injury.

The Norwegian striker had been sidelined for over two months but made an instant impact by breaking the deadlock in the 71st minute. He then wrapped up the win in the 85th minute to help City claim their 10th straight victory across all competitions.

It was a bitterly disappointing result for relegation-threatened Everton, who had frustrated the champions for much of the game with a dogged defensive display. Sean Dyche was absent due to a touchline ban but his influence was evident as Everton stifled City’s attack. The home side dominated possession but struggled to create clear-cut chances against Everton’s packed defence.

The breakthrough finally came midway through the second half after a period of increasing pressure from Manchester City. Haaland reacted quickest to scramble the ball home from close range after an initial header was blocked. He then showed his predatory instincts to slot past Jordan Pickford after being released by a superb Kevin De Bruyne through ball.

It was a reward for Manchester City’s patience and superior quality against an Everton side fighting desperately against relegation. Pep Guardiola’s side have regained their momentum at a crucial stage of the season, with rivals looking over their shoulders as the champions continue their ruthless winning run.

The win saw City open up a two-point lead at the top of the English Premier League table. They remain firmly on track to claim a fifth league title in six seasons and their form, just like in previous seasons, suggests it will take something special to stop them, especially with a game in hand over the chasing pack.
