Nigerians are undeterred despite warning by organizers of the Guinness World Records for participants to tread with caution.
A lady has commenced what she termed Snail-A-Thon during which she would be frying and cooking snail-related meals for 200 hours to set a Guinness World Record.
The volume of snail required in this eight days non-stop cooking marathon, triggered reactions on social media.
One commenter said the lady has literally declared war on snails. “Nigerians has become the nemesis of GWR. This one just declared war on snails. Sounds more like covenish competition….. next one will be Octopus-A-Thon. People should be careful of what they eat in the name of awuf.”
The trend in Nigeria now is to break a previously set Guinness World Records after Hilda Baci’s feat of 93 hours seven minutes cooking marathon, which is fancifully termed cookathon. .
Over the last few months, Nigerians have taken to using every means accessible to them to set one Guinness World Record or the other.
While the pace had been set by Hilda Baci who began the Cook-a-Thon trend in Nigeria, many citizens have brought up different ideas.
One lecturer said he would teach non-stop for 150 hours. Another wanted to kiss for 120 hours, until the Ekiti government intervened by placing a ban.
A video currently making the rounds online captures the lady who began a 200-hour Snail-A-Thon during which she’d be frying nonstop for 8 days.
Many have, however, considered the trend to be spinning out of control and have called on the authorities to do something about the recent GWR frenzy.
