In response to the escalating security challenges in Mangu Local Council, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has declared a 24-hour curfew, effective immediately. The decision, made after consultations with security agencies, aims to address the worsening security situation in the area.
Governor Mutfwang, through a statement released yesterday by the Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, emphasized that the curfew permits only individuals on essential duties to move within Mangu Local Council until further notice. The directive is a proactive measure to contain the security threats and restore normalcy to the troubled region.
The statement urged all citizens, particularly residents of Mangu, to adhere strictly to the curfew and collaborate with security personnel by providing valuable information to aid efforts in reestablishing peace and order.
Expressing his concerns, Governor Mutfwang lamented that despite the government’s persistent efforts to combat the activities of terrorist elements, some individuals remained committed to disrupting the peace in the state. The governor’s decision to impose a curfew reflects the seriousness with which the government views the security challenges facing the affected area.
The Guardian gathered information indicating that a disturbance in Jos, where police reportedly used teargas on ousted Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmakers, contributed to the implementation of the curfew in Mangu Local Council.
Governor Mutfwang extended his sympathies to the families affected by the recent pandemonium and reassured them of the government’s unwavering commitment to achieving lasting peace in Plateau State. He pledged to review the curfew as soon as the security situation improves, emphasizing the government’s dedication to restoring normalcy and safeguarding the well-being of its citizens.
The declaration of the curfew underscores the gravity of the security concerns in Mangu Local Council and highlights the state government’s determination to address the situation promptly and decisively.
