Getafe is exploring the prospect of securing the permanent signing of Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood, as disclosed by club President Angel Corres.
Greenwood, who joined the La Liga side on a season-long loan deal in 2023 following a 16-month absence from football, has made a notable impact with seven goal involvements in 13 appearances for Getafe.
Corres revealed ongoing discussions with Manchester United regarding Greenwood’s future, stating, “We believe a lot [in Greenwood]. We continue to meet with Manchester [United] to assess their satisfaction. The truth is that they are pleased with the reception, not only from Getafe fans but also from the entire Spanish community.”
Expressing Getafe’s interest in retaining Greenwood in the long term, Corres mentioned that it is “too early” to consider buying out the remaining period of his contract with United, set to expire in 2025. Currently, Getafe holds a percentage of Greenwood’s rights.
Despite attracting interest from clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, and Borussia Dortmund, Greenwood’s future at United remains uncertain pending the finalization of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s proposed investment and the appointment of the club’s new football management. A decision regarding Greenwood’s fate will be made at that juncture.
